We hebben een belangrijke update over onze locaties. Onze prachtige avonturen in Emmen op de Greenwise Campus stoppen helaas, maar dit biedt een fantastische nieuwe kans!

Anderhalf jaar lang probeerden we onze technische passie te verdelen over twee locaties. Dit was leerzaam, maar we merkten dat onze energie te veel verdeeld raakte. We misten de ultieme “samen sterk” vibe!

Nu Emmen verbouwt, gaan we volledig terug naar waar het allemaal begon: in het vertrouwde pand van de Nieuwe Veste / Fablab Coevorden.

Wat betekent dit voor jou?

• Meer Tech-Actie: We bundelen al onze kennis en gereedschappen op één plek.
• Vaste Presentaties: Minimaal 1x per maand inspirerende technische talks.
• Thema-Maanden: We duiken elke maand diep in een nieuw onderwerp (denk aan AI, Arduino, cybersecurity, etc.).

Emmen is niet meer, maar in Coevorden gaat het harder bruisen dan ooit!

Kom langs! Elke woensdagavond staan de deuren open in Coevorden. Of je nu beginner bent of expert: iedereen is welkom!

Sinds 2012 is er ieder jaar open dag voor hackerspaces, eerst alleen in Nederlands en de laatste paar jaar ook internationaal. De open dag is altijd de laatste zaterdag van maart, voor 2026 zal dit 28 maart zijn.

Zaterdag 28 maart houden diverse hackerspaces in Nederland een open huis.

Hackerspaces zijn locaties waar mensen met een technische, creatieve en nieuwsgierige mindset bijeenkomen. Ze komen daar om te werken aan projecten, elkaar te ontmoeten en te praten over onderwerpen die hen interesseren. Tijdens de open dag is het mogelijk om zelf te ontdekken wat hacken inhoudt en te zien wat er allemaal mogelijk is in een hackerspace. Tipje van de sluier? Iemands verbeeldingskracht is de meest beperkende factor!

Iedereen is welkom om een kijkje te komen nemen tijdens deze jaarlijks terugkerende open dag. Iedere hackerspace heeft zijn eigen programma, sommige hackerspaces blijven ‘s avonds geopend. Per hackerspace zijn verschillende presentaties te zien van de individuele projecten die in die hackerspace worden uitgevoerd.

Enkele voorbeelden van activiteiten zijn:

• Verschillende presentaties van de individuele projecten die in die hackerspace worden uitgevoerd.
• Leren ontwerpen met TinkerCad en Blender voor 3D-printers.
• Leren ontwerpen voor lasersnijders met Inkscape.
• Zelf 3D-printen, cnc-frezen, lasersnijden of solderen.
• Een introductie tot Linux, Arduino (C++) of Raspberry Pi.

Hackers vinden ethiek belangrijk, daarom wordt er binnen de hackerspaces gesproken over hoe hackers proberen de wereld te verbeteren door kritisch en fris naar de maatschappij, techniek en organisaties te kijken en kennis te delen. Daarnaast zijn hackerspaces plekken waar mensen komen die mooie, grappige en creatieve dingen maken. Een plek onder gelijkgestemde waar ze welkom zijn en waar zij een gemeenschappelijke ruimte, gereedschappen en informatie kunnen delen. Een plek die inspiratie geeft.

Aanmelden voor de open dag is bij de meeste spaces niet nodig. Het wordt wel op prijs gesteld als pers zich vooraf meldt en de privacy van de aanwezigen respecteert. De onderstaande Nederlandse hackerspaces doen mee, kijk voor meer informatie over het programma op hun eigen website:

Vendors have been rocking and rolling at the makerspace this week, with multiple pieces taking shape. Here’s a quick update on progress towards this community resource:

• HVAC has finally kicked off! This was our big blocker, with vendor selection and then the loan process for our $59k ducting changes.  PMG started ventwork in the space last week, building ducting off site and then assembling it in the southern studios.  We’re not certain how long the rest of the ducting will take, but estimate another week and a half to go. 
• First pieces of drywall installed, in order to prepare for a PMG return air duct.  Our volunteers came out in force last Saturday to start the process, and professional drywallers installed the rest Tuesday afternoon. This was also important, as the city came and inspected the wall’s framing and gave us the green light.  It’s only a fraction of what needs to be installed (about 130′) but with all the windows, doors, and pipes was a fairly complex install.  We’ll mud and tape the seams, then let PMG install their ducting.
• Big drywall delivery was Wednesday morning, with Bond from La Crosse dropping off 230 sheets of 4×12 drywall (nearly 12 tons).  That, plus the donated material from Simonson Lumber, should cover all our walls.
• Electrician now on site, working on a punch list of outlets for equipment, reconnecting lights, and about 50 more items before walls can be fully closed up.
• Fire exit doors have been installed, and just need closers and weatherstripping installed.
• Coworking space about ready to go, just need to finish furniture, art for the walls, and a lot of dusting and mopping.
• Sign on 3rd street is being built by Woodduck Design with installation of at least one half taking place this Saturday. 

Saturday the 7th is our next big volunteer day, so please consider joining us as we prep the space!  We’ll be prepping window frames, improving the men’s room, painting more of the loading dock railing, and much more.  Hope to see you there!

Helsinki Hacklab ry:n ylimääräinen yhdistyksen kokous järjestetään sunnuntaina 1.2.2026 klo 14. Kokous järjestetään yhdistyksen tiloissa Takkatie 18, Helsinki.

Jäsenet voivat seurata kokousta etänä ilman äänioikeutta, linkki Element Calliin jaetaan Slackissa ennen kokouksen alkamista.

Hallitus päätti kutsua yhdistyksen kokouksen koolle, koska talousarvioon on tullut merkittäviä muutoksia johtuen yläkertaan laajentumisesta. Kokouksessa esitetään ylimääräiselle yhdistyksen kokoukselle uusi talousarvio hyväksyttäväksi jossa on huomioitu yläkertaan laajenemisen vaikutus. Budjetoitu tulos vuodelle 2026: -29200 €

Hallituksen perustelut uudelle talousarviolle: Edellisvuosien ylijäämä mahdollistaa investoinnit Takkatie 18:n kerhotilaan ja tarkoituksena on monipuolistaa harrastusmahdollisuuksia kerhotilassa. Talousarvioon sisällytetty sisäportaikon rakentaminen on edellytys sille, että kerhotilan ylä- ja alakerta muodostavat yhtenäisen kerhotilan, jossa voi liikkua helposti.

Toisin sanoen, hyväksyessään uuden talousarvion yhdistyksen kokous mahdollistaa sisäportaikon toteuttamisen. Toimintasuunnitelmassa 2025 on jo kirjaus yläkerran mahdollisesta vuokraamisesta, jonka vuoksi sitä ei tarvitse nyt avata tässä ylimääräisessä kokouksessa.

Alla kokouksen esityslista ja uusi talousarvioesitys. Talousarviossa syyskokouksen 2025 hyväksymästä arviosta muuttuneet kohdat ovat väritaustalla: Laajentumiseen liittyvät muutokset violetilla ja tuoreen talousdatan pohjalta tarkentuneet (jäsenmaksut, alivuokraus ja koneiden myynti) turkoosilla.

Uusi vuokrasopimus on nähtävillä kerhotilassamme tiistaista 20.1. kokouspäivään saakka.

Tilannepäivitys 28.1.2026: Joulukuussa hallitus arvioi, että päivitetyt rakennuspiirustukset olisivat saatavilla kokoukseen mennessä. Näin ei kuitenkaan harmillisesti ole. Rakennuspiirustuksien hyväksyntä ei kuitenkaan ole yhdistyksen kokouksen päätösvaltaa vaativa asia, vaan asiaa edistetään hallituksen toimesta ja asian edetessä järjestetään yhteisömiitti. Tämä ei vaikuta nyt käytävän kokouksen asialistaan, koska piirustukset olisivat muutenkin esitelty virallisten kokousasioiden ulkopuolella.

Hackerspace Drenthe staat voor een belangrijke keuze. In maart 2026 moeten we onze huidige ruimte op de Greenwise Campus in Emmen verlaten. Dat betekent dat we nu al moeten nadenken over de toekomst van onze hackerspace in Emmen.

Welke kant gaan we op? Er zijn meerdere opties:

• Verhuizen naar een nieuwe locatie
• Samenwerking met een gemeente, onderwijsinstelling of vastgoedeigenaar
• Of stoppen we in Emmen en gaan we verder in Coevorden (onze andere vestiging waar we te gast zijn en geen eigen plek hebben voor eigen machines en gereedschap)
• Of een andere oplossing waar we nu nog niet aan gedacht hebben

Er is nog niets besloten. Juist daarom willen we dit gesprek open en samen voeren met alle leden, vrijwilligers en andere belanghebbenden.

Om deze mogelijkheden te bespreken organiseren we een bijeenkomst:

• Datum: maandag 5 januari 2026
• Tijd: 19:30
• Locatie: Emmen – Greenwise Campus

Iedereen die Hackerspace Drenthe een warm hart toedraagt is van harte welkom om mee te denken, ideeën te delen en vragen te stellen. Samen bepalen we de volgende stap.

Permits are issued, and walls are going up for the makerspace!  Here’s a bit of a catch up the last few weeks progress around the space:

• Boiler replacement completed, heat is on: The new boiler (funded by the building owner) is now installed and keeping the space a comfortable 72 degrees.  The complex electrical of wiring up 4 boilers meant the project took longer than expected, but it’s nice to be able to walk around the space without a heavy coat on!
• Walls starting to go up: A HUGE shout out to member Matt Shortridge for chalking out official lines, nailing down track with a powdered actuator, and starting off all the walls. We’ve got shifts all this week to get the metal studs in place for the studios.
• Rough In Plumbing starts Wednesday: PMG will start adding plumbing for the new bathrooms, sinks, and water fountains required for the space.  This should start on December 3rd, so we’re trying to finish walls in the requisite areas soon.
• Window Repair Party Happened: We didn’t get as far as we had hoped, but a few of the troublesome plastic windows on the Southern side of the building are now replaced with proper glass windows.  We’ll try and tackle a few more over the coming weeks, but might have to leave the rest until it gets warm again outside. Big thanks to the Redepennings, the Smiths, and Jonathan Worner for helping scrape out window casings and put in new panels!
• Temporary Woodshop Built: Members Dave, Chuck, and Rob turned the loading area and former workshop into a temporary woodshop! This should allow us to build fixtures, fix up doors, and otherwise work on the makerspace as keep building the space.
• Coworking Conference Room (Nearly) Done: The walls & trim of the conference room are painted, the ceiling tiles replaced, and the carpet tiles are glued down. It’s just a matter of a few minor touches, including mounting the TV & whiteboard, before the space is ready for groups to be able to use.  We’re hosting a painting party Tuesday evening to get more of the coworking space ready to go – learn more & sign up on Point.

If you have experience with construction, we could really use your help this week with getting walls in place. Please consider a volunteer shift – you can view the list of available shifts, or fill out a volunteer form with your interests and availability.  If these shifts don’t work but you still want to help, reply back or contact Mark and he’ll get you scheduled.

Jaakko Nisulan esitys laitekoulutuksista

Tausta:
HackLabin koneiden käyttökoulutukset ovat nykyisin satunnaisia ja vaikeasti ennakoitavia, mikä hidastaa uusien jäsenten pääsyä koneiden käyttäjiksi. Jotta koulutukset olisivat saavutettavissa, avoimia ja paremmin koordinoituja, ehdotetaan parannuksia laitekoulutukseen

Ehdotus:
Tavoitteena on:
• Laatia konekohtaiset koulutusohjeet ja tavoitteet .
• Järjestää koulutuksia säännöllisesti, dokumentoidusti ja tarpeen mukaan.

Päätösehdotus:
Jos vuosikokous puoltaa ohjelman käynnistämisen, minä, Jaakko Nisula, tarjoudun suunnittelemaan, koordinoimaan ja myös toteuttamaan mahdollisuuksieni mukaan tätä koulutusohjelmaa.

Plans have been sent by the architect to the city! While we’re still waiting for the city to approve the plans for the wall construction and change in building occupancy, we’ve been trying to keep construction moving in the makerspace.  The following has happened in the last two weeks:

• Boiler replacement has begun: The old boiler was from the 60s and seemed to be put in place before the walls in the offices were built.  PMG has spent the last couple days just cutting out the old boiler so newer boilers can be installed.  This project, covered by the building owner, will make sure we have reliable heat throughout the makerspace.  We expect it to be completed around November 12th
• Continued Prep in Offices and Coworking: The offices and coworking space are continuing to get some simple repairs, paint, and fixes to the lights and drop ceiling.  Since we can’t work on walls in the other studios, this is good work for us to get done while we wait for the permits.
• Wall Supplies Ordered: Last Friday, Mark ordered $7,500 in construction supplies from Menards, including 495 metal studs and nearly a mile worth of insulation for the internal studio walls.  We’re organizing a partial donation of drywall from Simonson Lumber, and trying to find an affordable supplier for the metal doors.
• Window Plan Formulated: Between board member Garrick Holey and community member Molly Brown, we now have a plan for repairing the south facing windows and preparing some internal studio windows.  The southern facing windows were replaced with acrylic plastic at some point, have numerous holes, and are poorly tinted – replacing those panes will make a big difference to the Fabric Arts, Ceramics, Glass, and other studios.  Watch for a few “Window Repair” volunteer sessions later in the month, where we’ll train you how to repair the windows with us.
• More Tool and Equipment Donations: We finished up our scheduled Fall Tool Drive, but the donations keep coming in!  Today, we received donations from member Rob Brault of some great woodworking equipment, as well as donations from community member Jon Mauser of a 20w laser cutter, grinder, and more.  We also received a large donation of office supplies, including a microwave and PA system, from Engage Winona.  THANK YOU to everyone who’s made donations to our space!

As an all-volunteer organization, we do still need help with preparing the space and writing some grants.  The jobs are a wide range of tasks, that fit whatever skills you might have. You can view the list of available shifts, or fill out a volunteer form with your interests and availability.
